Lacrosse Open Thread
I want to just talk about lacrosse for a while with anyone who wants too.
It has been a great college season so far. I have my final four as Syracuse, Duke, Virginia, and Hopkins. I thought Duke would struggle more this season with the loss of their seniors, especially after their loss to Notre Dame, but they have bounced back nicely.
Anyways, this is just for anyone who feels like talking about our wonderful sport of lacrosse!

Some thoughts.
I think it’s Notre Dame’s year, not because they’re “the best,” but because they’re the best at what they do. They really grind and make their opponents do the same. It’s just plain tough to push them around.
Virginia, Duke, and Hopkins all do a lot of things very well. Hopkins’ youth is coming around and only Duke can come after Virginia in terms of offensive firepower. All three have a legitimate shot at Baltimore.
In terms of sleepers, I like your call on Hofstra, but I’m a little higher on maybe Army, Maryland, or Yale. All three are capable of taking care of business, just like the Pride.

Sleeper
Villanova…DUH Winning!
I mean they arent techincally a “sleeper” but they are in that sleeper category when it comes to NCAA Lax where only 16 teams make it. And if Army and/or Maryland are considered sleeprs, then ’Nova is a super sleeper

Concerns for Virginia
Our defense has a lot of holes in it. Ghitelman looks to be just a half second slower than he was last year. After watching the Hopkins game, I have a lot of concerns for our team. The same holds true during the two games I watched start to finish - against Syracuse and Cornell. I still believe we will make it to Memorial Day Weekend, but my confidence level in getting some hardware has dropped.

There's one big weakness right now: Face-offs.
Otherwise, I think Starsia fine-tunes the rest of the way. The Cavs have as many pieces as anyone in the country. It’s not a super dominant team, but if they put it all together that machine is going to be tough to stop.

Oh good lord, I don’t want to talk about face-offs. That gives me endless sleepless nights. It’s amazing how different of a team we are when we are “on” at the X and when we’re nowhere to be found. Compare, for example, the first half vs. the second half of the Hop game.

I did not mean to say “at the X” — I’m still talking about the face-offs. Sometimes, I am retarded.

Ghitelman
Is a big game goalie though. UVA defense is where they are lacking. Ghitelman bailed them out in the Dome or else that game could have been different. The defense just isnt ready for big games or big challenges and Starsia knows it

I guess it is unfair of me to pin it on Ghitelman (I actually voted for him to be Player of the Game at the Face Off Classic). He definitely comes up with some BIG saves at key times. I have seen a few get past him that I think he is capable of stopping, and I guess it’s easy to have those stand out in my mind.

Torn
I love that teams like Notre Dame, Hofstra, Army, Villanova and Denver are in the top rankings, the sports need a good injection of new blood.
But I’m a Syracuse fan, so I want that old blood to keep pumping and pumping and pumping.
Call me Natalie Imbruglia cause I’m torn.

Whats your take on the Big East?
I feel bad for Villanova because I love the growth and where the team has come from/gone but like most conferences, the two big teams will come out of it (Notre Dame and Syracuse). With a sport like lacrosse with only 16 teams making it, will ’Nova get that at large bid??
