2012 ACC Lacrosse Tournament

ACC Lacrosse Tournament Participant Profile: Virginia

Every Division I tournament. Every team. College Crosse has it all on lockdown. Please send cookies and naptime. Today we're slashing to bits the ACC Tournament.

Despite the fact that Duke did heart surgery on Virginia last Friday at Klockner Stadium, it's still a little hard to say that, even as the two-seed, that the Cavaliers aren't the favorite to take the ACC Touranment this year. The gap between Virginia and the league's three other contenders isn't as wide as it felt a few weeks ago, but Virginia is still probably the best-constructed of the membership to give a championship performance in back-to-back games before heading into the NCAA Tournament.

Plus, you know, they're hosting the damn tournament. That has to count for something, right? (Please ignore last week's curb stomping of the Cavaliers at Klockner.)

Anyway, here's the heat on Virginia.

Sometimes you look like a beautiful flower, North Carolina. Other times you look like delicious destruction under my mowing deck. I see the Hopkins and Maryland wins, but I also see the Pennsylvania and Virginia losses. I don't know if this is all a sophisticated method acting thing or what, but I'd sure like to know where you're going with all this, counselor.

Anyway, here's the heat on North Carolina.

ACC Lacrosse Tournament Participant Profile: Duke

Every Division I tournament. Every team. College Crosse has it all on lockdown. Please send cookies and naptime. Today we're slashing to bits the ACC Tournament.

I wrote it on Monday and, because I have a crippling addiction for of laziness, it probably bears repeating:

The Blue Devils are the weirdest 11-3 team in the history of history. Actually, that isn't fair: Duke is always the weirdest 11-3 team in the history of history every single season. Just when you think that John Danowski won't be able to get his charges heading on an exponential upward trend, the Devils, of course, take a hammer to your brain and make you regret ever doubting Duke's panache for doing exactly what it shouldn't do.

Anyway, here's the heat on Duke.

ACC Lacrosse Tournament Participant Profile: Maryland

Every Division I tournament. Every team. College Crosse has it all on lockdown. Please send cookies and naptime. Today we're slashing to bits the ACC Tournament.

It isn't always the prettiest thing you'll see when the Terrapins run their 10 out on the field, but John Tillman looks to have his charges headed in the right direction. (That direction appears, at least right now, to be anywhere except "the UMBC game.") Maryland scored a big ol' kill against Johns Hopkins last week at Homewood Field and are a stealthy contender for top ACC honors this season despite its 1-2 regular season campaign.

Anyway, here's the heat on Maryland.

Virginia and North Carolina have deep lacrosse histories. The two of them have combined for nine NCAA Championships. They'll clash on Friday in the ACC Tournament, which is also being played at Virginia's home turf. Here's a closer look at this matchup between the Hoos and the Heels.

(I hope Gary Bettman doesn't think we're stealing the NHL's "Every Game. Every Night." slogan. We've got a cooler slogan, anyway, but that's neither here nor there)

The Maryland-Duke rivalry might be more well known on the hardwood, but it's one hell of a lacrosse matchup, too. Here's a deeper look inside Friday afternoon's matchup between the Terps and the Blue Devils.
