Alright, boys and girls. It's time for the annual RPI shamfest otherwise known as the ACC Men's Lacrosse Championship.
As a fan, I don't really care that the NCAA is too stupid to realize the stupidity of allowing this stupid "conference" to have a stupid "tournament." I just want to watch really good teams knock the crap out of each other, which is exactly what the ACC is providing.
As a whiny brat, I really do care that the NCAA is too stupid to realize the stupidity of allowing this stupid "conference" to have a stupid "tournament." First of all, there's only four teams. That's not a conference. That's a poorly attended barbecue and nobody at a barbecue competes in a legitimate tournament.
(Unless "first to puke in the swimming pool wins" is a tournament. Then, yeah, there are tournaments at barbecues.)
Second, this is a ridiculously artificial inflation of each "conference" member's RPI. The NCAA does not account for this in their RPI calculation, considering these "tournament" results as eligible for inclusion in the formula. By simply competing in this tournament each of the four schools will, likely, generate a higher RPI. This is irrespective of wins and losses.
Are we sure we're all cool with that? If you're Drexel and potentially on the outside looking in on the NCAA's because you may not make the THUNDERDOME! tournament, aren't you a little pissed off at this? If you're Denver and hoping for a high seed in the tournament, won't you be a little angry if Duke's RPI is better than yours and the Devils pull a higher seed?
That's what I'm talking about people. Anyway, to the schedule!
TEAM | TEAM | TIME | FUN FACTOR | RANK |
Maryland | North Carolina | 5:00 | 5.6509 | 2 |
Duke | Virginia | 7:30ish | 7.3724 | 1 |
