GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING, College Crosse Nation! Thanks for making us a part of your day! Here’s everything you need to know for January 17, 2020.

College Crosse News

Here’s a great post on Merrimack: Small school, steep competition -Merrimack goes Division I amid plans for major growth.

On their first day of practice last week, members of the Merrimack College men’s lacrosse team crisscrossed the field in North Andover, flinging precise passes to each other as clouds of steam from their breath hung in the cold air. It was just a few minutes into the 2020 season, but there were clearly high expectations for the reigning back-to-back national champions of the NCAA’s Division II: drop a pass and you take a lap as penance.

Lots of moving about going on in the MLL this week.

Here’s an article from the Baltimore Sun about the Cottle news.

Dave Cottle and Brendan Kelly enjoyed a very successful partnership for a decade. Together, those two formed the brain trust that led the Chesapeake Bayhawks to four Major League Lacrosse championships. Now that Kelly is no longer owner of the Bayhawks, Cottle figured it was a good time for him to step away as well.

It’s a movement!

From Sports Illustrated: Andrei Svechnikov making a name for himself, one lacrosse shot at a time.

“And,” says Hartman, nodding toward Svechnikov, “I’m sure all the kids will want you to pull out the move.” Well, duh. Ever since Svechnikov whipped that mind-melting goal over Flames goalie David Rittch’s right shoulder in late October—the only successful lacrosse-style attempt in NHL history, until he did so again less than two months later—greater Raleigh hasn’t stopped gushing over his signature, eponymous skill.

Back to work!

Cornell comes in at #12 in US Lacrosse Magazine’s Preseason Top 20 preview.

Cornell finished last spring just on the outside of the NCAA tournament bubble after losing to Yale, 15-10, in the Ivy League semifinals, squandering the No. 9 national ranking the Big Red had going into the conference tournament.
