Game Preview
The Detroit Mercy Titans kicked off their season with a tough 10-7 loss to Notre Dame last Sunday. Detroit Mercy provided some great defense throughout the first three quarters, led by goalie Logan Shamblin’s 11 saves and Charlie Hayes’ three caused turnovers and one goal from the short stick position. Matthew Vangalen fuels this team’s offense, and continued his successful 2017 campaign with two goals and three assists against Notre Dame.
As for the Mercer Bears, they earned their first win of the season in overtime thanks to Michael Quinn’s big tally. Prior to that, they suffered two setbacks to Vermont and Lehigh respectively. But their offensive production has increased with each game, starting with three goals against Vermont before increasing to eight against Lehigh and then to 10 with Cleveland State. Scott Baird has a team-high eight points on 23 shots, while freshman Matt Hughes has eight caused turnovers in his first season in the NCAA.
