ACC Championship Preview

In yesterday's action the #1 seed Irish felt to #4 Duke in what was a 13-8 rollin’ to say the least. In the later game, the Orange squeaked past UNC 9-8 which makes for a Syracuse v. Duke contest tomorrow at 1pm for all the marbles. First looking at the Dukies, their performance sort of surprised me yesterday especially with Myles Jones not close to 100%. Originally I said that Jones, Guterding, and Class would need at least 10 points combined for the Blue Devils to win this game, however they only combined for 7 and Duke still won comfortably. The defense was very solid and Danny Fowler played with a peculiar playoff poise between the pipes. Case Matheis stepped up big for Duke scoring 4 goals. I called that much but he will need to be just as good tomorrow. The same can be said for Myles Jones who apparently played with stitches on his hand but still had 3 pts (1g, 2a). At times he looked comfortable but at other times it was clear he was just a decoy. As for Syracuse they completely shut down UNC's lethal attack holding Bitter scoreless and Sankey and Goldstock to just a goal apiece. Bobby Wardwell was locked in saving 14 of the 22 shots faced (64%). Offensively it was clear Galasso was pumped up to face his former team as he had a hatty Rice and Donahue added solid efforts once again scoring 4 pts each. As for tomorrow it's a real tough pick. Remember these 2 teams played on March 22nd which favored the Orange 19-7 in an ass-whooping that was over at halftime. Myles Jones at 70% may have been good enough against ND but it won't be enough if Duke will avenge their loss tomorrow. I think this will be a back and forth affair but the Orange are your 2015 ACC champs, 10-9.
