Previewing Marquette’s 2019 men’s college lacrosse schedule

After going 6-8 last season, the Golden Eagles return the majority of their team in 2019, along with some new faces.

Maggie Bean, Marquette Athletics

The Marquette Golden Eagles are the fourth team in our 2019 schedule preview series and the first team from the Big East. The Golden Eagles finished 6-8 in 2018 and 3-2 in Big East play. Marquette could not complete a three-peat in Big East championships, as they were bounced in the conference semifinals to Denver.

Here’s their entire 2019 schedule:

Circle These Dates

  • 2/15 (at Jacksonville): After crushing the Dolphins in 2017, it was the complete opposite last season. The Golden Eagles needed a John Wagner goal with seven seconds to go to get out of Duval with a win. This Dolphins program is definitely on the rise and certainly won’t be treated lightly.
  • 3/2 (vs. Ohio State @ SMU): Two teams representing growing regions playing a neutral site game in another growing region. A perfect match for expanding the sport, but also will be a very fun game to watch. Marquette upset the Buckeyes last year in Michigan in the team’s highlight win of the season.
  • 3/12 (at Robert Morris): The Colonials are defending NEC champions and crushed the Golden Eagles in Wisconsin last season by 10. Robert Morris brings a fun and up-tempo offense, which is the opposite of what Marquette does on that side of the ball. The defense will have to step up, unlike last year’s result.
  • 4/10 (at Notre Dame): With a slumping Irish team coming into Wisconsin a year ago, the Golden Eagles were so close to earning a huge upset over Notre Dame. This time, they’ll have to go to South Bend to earn a coveted win over the Golden Domers. They’ve lost to the Fighting Irish by a goal in each of the last three regular season matchups.
  • 4/27 (vs. Denver): The two teams have a history with each other. In 2016 and 2017, the Golden Eagles have beaten the Pioneers in the Big East Tournament en route to a conference championship. Last year, that streak ended with the Pios knocking them out. The regular season meetings have been in favor of Denver, but that doesn’t mean things can change this year.
