Recap

Mercer got out to a 5-0 start midway through the second quarter, and it seemed like the Bears would breeze by the Titans in this one. They led 7-2 with 12:47 left in third quarter thanks to Scott Baird’s three goals before things took a complete 180.

The Titans scored the game’s final six goals, including two goals in the final 1:23 of regulation to send it into overtime, where Brett Erskine scored the game-winner after just scoring the game-tying goal.

Detroit Mercy’s defense was at it again. Sam Horton and Alex Akins forced three caused turnovers each, but Mercer’s Matt Hughes caused five turnovers on the opposing side. Logan Shamblin and Bradley Hodoval each made 10 saves.

Three Stars of the Game

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ - Matt Hughes, D/LSM, Mercer: The freshman pole has had a great start to his first college lacrosse season. But despite the loss, Hughes recorded a game-high five caused turnovers and five ground balls. Oh, and he scored a goal too.

⭐️⭐️ - Scott Baird, M, Mercer: The Bears got the bulk of their scoring thanks to Baird’s three tallys on nine shots before their entire offense went silent.

⭐️ - Brett Erskine, A, Detroit Mercy: His impact didn’t come until late in the game, but it was a huge impact, scoring the game-tying and game-winning goals for the Titans to help them get their first win of the season.
