The Canisius Golden Griffins are the 37th team in our 2019 schedule preview series and the third team from the MAAC. The Golden Griffins finished 8-9 in 2018 and 3-3 in MAAC play. Canisius defeated Monmouth and Detroit Mercy en route to a MAAC Championship as the No. 4 seed before falling to Robert Morris in the NCAA Play-In game.

Circle These Dates
- 2/9 (at Hobart): The season begins with a three-goal road trip with Hobart kicking things off. The Statesmen took off on offense in the second half en route to a 10-goal win over the Golden Griffins. Chris Aslanian had nine points, while Justin Scott had six goals, but both of those guys are back.
- 2/19 (at Furman): Canisius took last year’s meeting in Radnor in overtime. Down two with 10:27 left in regulation, the Golden Griffins scored three times to take a one-goal lead. But William Holcomb’s third of the game tied things and forced overtime where Steven Coss ended it all with a goal.
- 3/9 (at Robert Morris): These two teams met twice last year, once in the regular season and again in the play-in game. The Colonials needed two fourth quarter goals to top Canisius in the regular season meeting, but an early 7-0 run in their rematch ended things early for the Golden Griffins in the postseason.
- 3/30 (at Monmouth): It was the best time to air a regular season MAAC game on TV. After Monmouth took a two-goal lead into halftime, Canisius scored three straight to go up by one entering the final quarter. The Hawks then erased all that with a 3-0 run of their own in the fourth and held on to win despite a late Golden Griffins goal.
- 4/13 (at Detroit Mercy): Last year’s MAAC Championship game was surprisingly entertaining. Just like they did in their semifinal matchup two days earlier, Canisius was down late in the fourth but got goals from Ryan McKee and Connor Kearnan to force overtime. And in the extra session, a Detroit Mercy mistake off the faceoff six seconds in resulted in Mathieu Boissonneault capturing the conference crown. The Titans are definitely capable of returning to the MAAC title game in 2019.
