The chatter around Air Force this offseason has centered around two items: (1) the program's difficulty in finding a league home as a consequence of conference realignment; and (2) the government shutdown and how it precluded the Falcons from traveling to Virginia to play in this past weekend's Play for Parkinson's event. Unfortunately, those two issues are now subordinated behind something more pressing -- a tragic car accident that has claimed the wife of Air Force head coach Eric Seremet and put Seremet and his children in the hospital:
State Patrol says the driver, 43-year-old Eric Seremet, overcorrected when he drifted off the right side of the road, which reportedly caused the vehicle to spin out of control. Troopers say the vehicle crossed over into the oncoming lane of traffic before going off the left side of the road, where it rolled twice and hit three fences.
CSP says when they arrived minutes after the call came in, one of the victims was already receiving CPR.
The front passenger, Sonia Seremet, 37, was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled. She was flown to the hospital, where she passed away.
The driver and two children who were in the backseat were also flown to the hospital. Eric Seremet was listed in fair condition Sunday afternoon. No word on the condition of the children.
There isn't much detail elsewhere about the accident or the current status of Seremet or his children. Thoughts and prayers go out to the Seremet family as well as the entire Air Force community.
UPDATE: Here.
