Game Previews
Siena @ Colgate: This was supposed to be played yesterday, but due to the huge snowstorm that hit the area this past week, the game was pushed back to today. The Saints are still winless on the season, most recently falling to Bryant on Monday. Five of their losses have been by five or fewer goals. Chris Robertson leads the team with 19 goals and 25 assists, while Mike Reilly has a team-high 13 assists. Freshman Gage Ponsetti has started the past two games after being the backup to Aaron Lewis for the first five games of the season. For the Raiders, they’ve alternated wins and losses for the last four games, including wins over Bucknell and Hobart. Anthony Abbadessa and freshman Griffin Brown have 11 goals to lead the team, while Abbadessa and Sam Cleveland are tied for the team lead with 16 points.
Denver @ Ohio State: The obvious choice for game of the day. The Pios are coming off a buzzer-beating win over Notre Dame last week to take over the top spot in the Media Poll. Connor Cannizzaro and freshman Ethan Walker are Denver’s two catalysts on offense, with 26 and 23 points respectively. Trevor Baptiste is a cyborg at the face-off X, with a 73.8% win percentage so far this season, leading the country. He’ll take on Ohio State’s Jake Withers, who has a 68.2% win percentage this year, which is third in the nation.
As for the Buckeyes, they’re coming off a 6-3 win over Towson in Maryland on Wednesday and are 8-0 on the season. Each goal was scored by a different player in the game. Ohio State might be Canada’s team with four of their top six scorers hailing from the Great White North, including the top three. Senior Eric Fannell, who’s from Ontario, leads the team with 13 assists and 23 points. Freshman Tre Leclaire, who hails from British Columbia out west, is one of the most underappreciated freshmen in the country. He has a team-high 13 goals and is second on the team with 17 points. The third Canadian is Johnny Pearson, also from B.C., at midfield. Tom Carey will need another big day in goal after he made eight saves against the Tigers.
