Essentials.
We have a fun matchup today between Wagner & Lafayette. #HappyHourLacrosse You can find the link for the live stream here. (Ed. Note: Shout out to NEC Front Row!) You can also find the live stats link for the game here.
College Crosse Preview.
If you follow the blog you should be well aware that we love Wagner. The lovable Seahawks have struggled in years prior but they broke out in 2016 to win a program record six games. Were it not for a triple OT loss to Hobart, Wagner would’ve finished 7-8 last season. To put that in perspective, from 2006-2015 Wagner only won nine games total.
There’s a lot of optimism surrounding the squad this season. Wagner returns their top 3 scorers from 2016 (Andrew Streilein 21 Gs & 22 As, Patrick McMenamin 16 Gs & 17 As, and William McMenamin 28 Gs & 3 As) and 2016 All-NEC Rookie Team goalie, Matt Sefcik. If Wagner’s able to carry the momentum from last year into this season, the Seahawks may be a contender for an NEC Tournament spot in 2017. #WhatATimeToBeAlive
Lafayette struggled in their season-opener versus Michigan. The Leopards were unable to stay with the Wolverines and ended up losing to Michigan by a score of 17-6. Hopefully Lafayette will put up more of a fight today against Wagner, a team they beat last year by a score of 12-7.
Though their game versus Michigan didn’t go as planned, Lafayette does have some weapons, as the squad has all 10 of their top scorers from 2016. The Leopards offense is led by seniors Eric Joseph and Jason Sands. Joseph led the team with 41 points (33 Gs & 8 As) in 2016 and Sands was second with 28 points (7 Gs & 21 As). Fellow senior Kevin Lewis was right behind Sands in scoring with 27 points (19 Gs & 8 As).
