GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING, College Crosse Nation!! Thanks for making us a part of your day! Here are your links for November 25, 2017.

What You Missed

The River Hawks of UMass Lowell look to be the next team to benefit from the “Year Four jump.”

Could headgear enter women’s lacrosse permanently in the near future?

Lacrosse The Nation

On The Dan Le Batard Show, Stugotz and rapper Method Man discussed how Method got involved with lacrosse, beginning when he was 11 years old:

He loved holding the stick and using it to release his anger. He also ripped on Port Washington and then Le Batard realized Method may have played against Stugotz in high school.

From field lacrosse to box lacrosse, all nine National Lacrosse League teams have announced their rosters. You can check out all of them below:

Additionally, I looked at each active roster (practice squads included) and did some research:

2017-18 NLL Roster Stats

NLL Team # of Americans # of Canadians # of Drafted Rookies # of American Drafted Rookies # of Canadian Drafted Rookies

A little less than 11% of the 213 active NLL players are American, while a little over 19% of the league’s 26 active drafted rookies are from the United States.

There’s a number of college players that aren’t on NLL teams that were drafted this year. They include Cole Shafer, Larken Kemp, Connor Cannizzaro, Alec Tulett, Dylan Molloy, and Matt Rambo are significant players not to be on their drafted team’s roster. Tulett is finishing up his education at Brown, so it sounds like he won’t play this season, according to the Rock’s press release.

Dan Craig is on injured reserve, and Christian Burgdorf didn’t even show up to training camp.

Let’s hope the number of American players grow next year, especially with at least two new teams entering the league.

BUT, the Georgia Swarm have one-upped their Ludacris performance from last year with 2 Chainz!

Michael Paluska from WFTS in Tampa Bay has a great story on how a 15-year-old has used lacrosse to overcome autism:

The family says the coach told them she might play as goalie sometime next year, depending on how well she did. Weeks later Grace [Armenia] was off the bench and in the game and faced with making her first big play, blocking a goal.

“She went in there and she was a champ,” Ericka Armenia said. “The stick was coming up and coming at her and she blocked it. The feeling was just everything, gratefulness, excitement. Just to see her face her confidence and to see her light up knowing she did something good. It’s made her feel part of a team.”

Her coach Kevin “Smiley” Losier says since he started training Grace in July she has developed an unbelievable grasp for the game.

“You can tell now,” Losier said. “She gets low, moves aggressive to the ball. I’ve seen a huge difference from where she started in July. Anyone can play sports…to see what she’s done anyone can do it. She loves it she gets a big smile on her face she gets pumped up.”

With “The Rivalry” being played today in football, the Ohio State Buckeyes dropped the date for this year’s lacrosse game against Michigan:

The 2018 Inside Lacrosse All-Name Team has been released. Hello Taggart Eymer and Raines Shamburger.

Could schools in Lynn, Massachusetts get girls’ lacrosse?

Although there were a decent number of underclassmen girls who expressed interest in playing lacrosse, the school district has tried starting a lacrosse program before and the program quickly ran out steam as students lost interest over time. There are also concerns that a new lacrosse program would only serve to pull girls from other existing sports programs instead of getting students involved who otherwise wouldn’t have participated in sports at all.

Girls lacrosse is a much less physical version of the sport than boys lacrosse which the committee also considered. Committee member Jared Nicholson touched on the difference in cost for boys and girls lacrosse when he said “we do have a city wide boys lacrosse team and obviously girls lacrosse is also a growing sport and I think that there is a little bit less of an equipment cost than for the boys because the girls don’t have the same level of padding as in boy’s lacrosse.”

The subcommittee decided that a camp should be held next summer to gauge student interest and determine whether or not to have a girls lacrosse program going forward.

One Binghamton Bearcat senior hopes to continue laying down the building blocks for the program this year:
