Ryan, Chris, & myself were blessed to have Coach Keegan Wilkinson of the Marist College Red Foxes on the podcast last night. It was a really fun show and we think you all will greatly enjoy it as well. We got to know a little bit about coach’s background, how he got into lacrosse, his time in Poughkeepsie, NY, & his thoughts on the upcoming 2018 season.
Coach Wilkinson has accomplished a great deal in his time at Marist and is one of the best young coaches in the game today. In his first six seasons as head coach of the Red Foxes, coach has compiled a 55-38 record, has helped lead Marist to the MAAC Tournament Championship Game in each of the last four seasons, has received two MAAC Coach of the Year awards, & became the fastest head coach in MAAC history to reach 50 wins when Marist beat Holy Cross in March of 2017. Coach Wilkinson also led Marist to its second ever NCAA Tournament appearance in 2015, and helped guide the Red Foxes to their first ever NCAA Tournament win that same year, as Marist defeated Bryant 10-6 in the play-in round in the school’s first ever home postseason event.
We started our podcast with some discussion on coach’s background, his playing days at DeMatha Catholic High School in Maryland and then later on at St. Joe’s here in Philly, and how he got into coaching (1:00). Next we moved on to discuss coach’s thoughts on the upcoming season, how the new recruiting rules have impacted the program, & his thoughts on the shot clock (19:45).
Additionally, coach talked about the lasting legacy of former Marist lacrosse player Eddie Coombs (32:00), we got a major scoop on Marist’s 2018 schedule (39:20), & coach gave us his favorite Philly cheesesteak recommendation (shout out to Larry’s Steaks, 43:00).
