College Crosse Recap

Towson pulls off the stunner over the defending champs in Denver to advance to the second round. I am hesitant to call this a major upset, as the Tigers have been one of the top 10 teams throughout the season. However, regardless of the term you use, this was a huge win for the program.

Towson led the entire game, and was up 5-1 with 5 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. Denver made a charge in the second half. The Pios even tied the game up at 7 with 11 minutes to go in the 4th. However, the Tigers never lost their poise, withstood the late run, and prevailed for the bracket-busting win.

Towson was led in scoring by Spencer Parks who had a fabulous day. Parks finished with 4 goals and added 2 assists. Towson's Tyler White was magnificent in goal, as he finished with 13 saves, including 9 in the second half. White really brought it at the end when he made 6 saves to help Towson escape with a 1 point win over the Pios. Winning the turnover battle was huge for Towson, as they only committed 7 turnovers to Denver's 14.

Denver fought as they are wont to do, but their offense didn't click like normal.  Zach Miller led all Denver players in scoring with a hat-trick and two assists, but he just didn't have enough help to put Denver over the top. Trevor Baptiste had another amazing day at the dot. Trevor won 20/22 faceoffs, including the last one with 13 seconds left to give Denver a shot at tying the game.

Next Game.

  • Towson's next game is against Loyola in Columbus, Ohio.
