Notre Dame 15 vs. Air Force 7 | Notre Dame Recap |
College Crosse Recap
Notre Dame ended Air Force's 15-game winning streak, as the Irish beat the Falcons 15-7. This is the 7th time that (out of 8) that Notre Dame held a visiting first-round opponent to less than 10 goals. Notre Dame's defense got better as the day went on, limiting Air Force to only three 2nd half goals.
The game was pretty close early on, especially when Air Force scored their 3rd goal to cut Notre Dame's lead to 1 early in the 2nd quarter. However, Notre Dame then went on a 5-0 run before Air Force scored their 4th goal. The closest Air Force got after that was 4 points.
The Irish were led in scoring by Mikey Wynne, who had a great game with 5 goals on the afternoon. While Matt Kavanagh and Sergio Perkovic were held to only 2 goals and 3 assists combined, Ryder Garnsey scored a hat-trick to pick up the slack. Notre Dame was able to find some offense elsewhere though, as 5 different Irish players scored 1 goal each.
Air Force gave everything they had, but Notre Dame was just better in too many areas. The Irish won 17/26 faceoffs and outworked Air Force on GBs as well winning 28-17. The Falcons were led in scoring by Nick Hruby and Chris Walsch, who both had 2 goals each.
