In the best game of the day, North Carolina was able to hold on for the 10-9 victory over Marquette. While the action was back and forth throughout the game, Carolina was able to withstand a late run by Marquette to advance to the 2nd round.
North Carolina was led in scoring by Michael Tagliaferri, who finished the game with a hat-trick and 1 assist. Additionally, both Steve Pontrello and Chris Cloutier added 2 goals each, with Pontrello also adding 1 assist on the afternoon. North Carolina was down 3-2 after 1 quarter, but was able to go on a 3-0 run in the second quarter to go into the half up 6-5. While Marquette was able to tie it up at 7 in the 3rd quarter, Carolina went on another 3-0 run and held on for the 10-9 victory.
Marquette put up a valiant effort but it just wasn't enough for the win. Marquette was led in scoring by Tanner Thompson, who had a hat-trick. Additionally, Ryan McNamara and Blaine Fleming also punched in 2 goals each.
