College Crosse Preview.
- Check out Marisa's Patriot League Tournament Primer that just went up this afternoon.
- Penn vs. St. Joe's. This is going to be a great one tonight. While this is a non-conference game, Philly Phour bragging rights are on the line. Moreover, if you saw last year's game between the two, you know St. Joe's wants to tag Penn back for that epic comeback win against the Hawks last year.
Penn is rolling right now. After a mid-season 3-game losing streak looked like it was going to derail their playoff hopes, the Quakers ripped off 3 straight wins and secured a spot in the Ivy League Tournament.
St. Joe's was on fire, winning 6 games in a row before last weekend's loss to Robert Morris. That was the first regular season loss for the Hawks to an NEC opponent since they joined the conference. A rebound win against Penn would get the Hawks mind right just before they finish off the regular season against Mount St. Mary's and the NEC Tournament. - Army vs. Lehigh. Army has been in a bit of a tailspin the last 4 games. The Black Knights are 1-3 in April after a 5-game win streak in the middle of the season. Additionally, Army's been held to 7 or less points in 2 of those April losses (7-8 against Bucknell and 6-12 against Loyola). Army beat Lehigh, but the Black Knights aren't clicking like they were earlier in the season.
While April hasn't been great for Army, it's been worse for Lehigh. Since jumping out to a 4-1 record early in the season, the Mountain Hawks have gone 2-7 since their win against Colgate back on March 5th. Lehigh's been held to 7 or less points in 5 out of their last 7 games. -
Holy Cross vs. Bucknell. The Bison have been smoking the last 6 games, going 5-1, with an offense that has scored 14 or more goals the last 3 weeks. Moreover the Bison's defense has been playing well too, as Bucknell has held 4 out of their last 6 opponents to 7 or fewer points. Bucknell's been hot since their 14-3 loss to Loyola and come into the game on a 4-game winning streak. The Bison will be tough to beat tonight.
Holy Cross is an intriguing team. As I mentioned in the preview before their game against BU last week, the key thing for the Crusaders is reaching double digits. While HC is 4-10 on the season, they are 4-3 when they score 10 or more points (including last week's win over the Terriers), and 2 of those losses were by 1 point (Harvard and Lehigh). While the odds may not favor a Holy Cross win today, their dominating performance against Lehigh last week certainly gives them some juice going into tonight's match-up.
