The Wagner Seahawks are the 48th team in our 2017 schedule preview. The Seahawks went 6-9 overall in 2016 (nice), and 1-5 in NEC play. Wagner failed to make the NEC Tournament. Let’s dive into their schedule.

The Seahawks begin their season in Riverdale against Manhattan on February 11, with their home opener on February 17 against Lafayette. Wagner then takes a New Jersey trip to take on Monmouth on February 21 and Rutgers on the 28th.

March begins with a four-game homestand, and all four of those games are in a span of just nine days. It starts on March 4 against Dartmouth, followed three days later by VMI. Hampton visits on March 10, and the homestand concludes with Mercer on March 12. The Seahawks start NEC play on March 18 in Geneva as they take on defending NEC champion Hobart. Last year in Staten Island, the Seahawks fell to the Statesmen in triple overtime, 10-9. Nonconference play wraps up on March 25 in Newark, New Jersey against NJIT.

The remainder of the NEC schedule alternates between home and away games, beginning at home against Bryant on April 1. The team then travels to take on Robert Morris on April 8. The Seahawks host Mount St. Mary’s on April 15, followed by a trip to Hawk Hill to take on St. Joe’s on April 22. The regular season wraps up at home on April 29 against Sacred Heart.

Wagner returns the majority of their team from last season, including leading scorers Andrew Streilein and Patrick and William McMenamin. Also returning are Billy Martin, John Norton, and Paul DeVita. On defense, Andrew Park, Evan Clark, Tanner Dixon, and Riley Owens all return after starting most of last year’s games at close defense. With Michael McMenamin gone, the Seahawks will rely on Connor Davis as a key defensive midfielder. Matt Sefcik returns to the pipes as the starting goaltender, while William McMenamin and Anthony Labetti will be the main face-off guys for Wagner. Ever since a winless 2011 season, the Seahawks have been improving slightly. Is this the year they can get at least at .500?
