- In the media poll, Syracuse took home 15 first-place votes while North Carolina (seven) and Notre Dame (two) each earned first-place nods from the poll's voters. The split among pollsters recognizes the difficulty of assessing the nation's top teams at such an early part of the season. New to the poll this week are Colgate and Villanova while Lehigh and Holy Cross fell out of the top 20.
- In the coaches poll, Syracuse earned 11 first-place votes while North Carolina was placed at the top of three ballots. New to the poll this week are Villanova and Brown while while Holy Cross and Pennsylvania exited the top 20.
