College Lacrosse Schedule for March 7, 2014

There are three games tonight, including a huge ESPNU date in New Jersey.

Get your weekend moving in the right direction with the latest Inside Lacrosse podcast from Quint Kessenich and Terry Foy:

Anyway, there are three games today. Here are your highlights:

  • North Carolina at Princeton: It may be early, but I'm struggling with understanding whether Princeton's defensive issues are attributable to the team's field defense, it's goalie play, or whether it's a combination of the two (it's probably a combination of the two). From the Tigers' game against Hofstra -- viewed in totem -- and highlights from Hopkins' soul-crushing of Princeton, it's fairly clear that Princeton's field defense is still a work-in-progress and that the Tigers' goaltending situation isn't as sound as folks hoped prior to the start of the season. Limiting exposure and preferable shots is a key for Princeton, and against a Carolina offense ripe with offensive weapons capable of burning the Tigers' defense to the ground, that issue comes into full focus this evening at Class of 1952 Campground. Ryan will be at the game for College Crosse tonight, so give him a follow on the Twitter machine.
  • Towson at Marist: This has the makings of something potentially special. Towson is currently at 3-2 with wins over High Point, Georgetown, and Mount St. Mary's and losses to Loyola and Hopkins; Marist is at 2-2 with wins over Stony Brook and Marquette and losses to Denver and Air Force. These are, in general, two similarly situated teams with disparate existences (if that makes any sense). This isn't the kind of game that jumps off the page as a must-follow, but keep this in mind: Marist is thirsty for a win of this caliber before entering its MAAC campaign next weekend; Towson has a number of strong opponents remaining on its schedule, but needs to find purpose in its nonconference schedule to build momentum toward what could be a brutal THUNDERDOME! slate.
