College Lacrosse Schedule for February 8, 2014

TV listings, video streams, live stats, and an open thread. It's pretty much the place to be.

Today is this, basically:

Otherwise, here are your three highlights for today:

  • Massachusetts at Army: Massachusetts lost a major offensive focus (Will Manny) and defensive force (Jake Smith) in the offseason. Army lost a major offensive focus (Garrett Thul) and defensive force (Brendan Buckley) in the offseason. Both teams are existing somewhere on the fringes of the top 20 -- they're in that grey zone between the top third of the nation and the middle of Division I -- and could use a strong effort against a competitive peer to open their campaigns. This could be grueling lacrosse, a grind-it-out-until-it's-dust affair, and I don't either team would have it any other way.
  • Boston University at Mercer // Virginia at Richmond: Boston University and Richmond make their Division I debuts this weekend, following the lead that Furman set seven days ago. The Terriers have the more preferable opener between the two schools (given the light show that Virginia put on against Loyola, let us all hope that Richmond doesn't get TKO'd during player introductions), but the most important thing for both the Spiders and Terriers is that they're a real thing with uniforms and everything. The finals results matter less than how each team competes for 60 minutes today.
  • Denver at Air Force: The game of the day should be a battle at altitude. Denver is rediscovering itself after the graduations of Eric Law, Chase Carraro, and a handful of other contributors; will the Pios melt faces like they did in 2013? Air Force has all kinds of heat behind the program this spring. The Falcons are capable offensively and are looking to take the step forward that has eluded the program in recent seasons. Western lacrosse needs Denver-Air Force as a legitimate rivalry with competitive fire. This iteration of the matchup could be one of the best in recent history.

Here's Saturday's full schedule. If there are errors, please let me know. I'll fix/populate links to live stats and video as the day progresses (if necessary).

This is your open thread for Saturday. The black keys on the piano are my favorite ones. People will be around to yak about whatever is tickling their fancy.
