Judgement Call: How Does Loyola-UVa Compare?
Starsia on Thursday night's insanity:

So was there a similarly incredulous/amazed quote from last night's contest? Take it away, coach Starsia –

"I can't remember any game like this," said Starsia, who played in another OT USA-Canada game, the 1978 FIL Final. "I can't ever remember being a part of something like this and I have been a part of games where there has been a severe momentum swing. But not to this degree and not to the sense of one team being able to make every play. We just couldn't get the ball. I didn't feel like we stopped playing, they just started making plays. We just seemed to always be behind the eight ball in the fourth. It certainly is a great win for us at the end of the day and a good way to open the season."

Maybe Starsia forgets another season-opening game that went sideways for Virginia: 1997, Carrier Dome. Number two Virginia against number three Syracuse. The Orange -- thanks to Casey Powell losing his damn mind (seven goals and six assists on the night) -- erased a seven-goal deficit with 6:23 to go in the third quarter to knot the game at 19. In the final period, Virginia led 21-19 with 7:20 to play but succumbed to Syracuse, 22-21. There were somewhere around 138 possessions in the game, and the Orange used a 10-2 run over the final 21:23 to secure the victory.
