Referees are working with a contract again and much more.

This is obviously your favorite site, but other people actually write important stuff sometimes. Now is that sometimes.

A Full Pint

USILA, COC Strike Four-Year Deal for DI
That flew under the radar:

The USILA and COC have come to terms on a four-year deal for Division I that’ll prevent any referee labor issues (like the ones that threatened several exhibitions last fall) through the 2017 season. The parties are currently in talks to extend the DII and DIII deals, which expire this June, through 2017, as well, so that all negotiations will occur on the same calendar in the future.

The deal was finalized in mid-December, shortly after the IMLCA Convention in Baltimore and, in addition to raising and standardizing game rates for refs, focused primarily on formalizing travel costs for refs (particularly since more refs have to take flights to get to games with the increased geographic disparity of DI programs) and increasing available funds for ref development and accountability systems.

This probably should have been put to bed well before the June 2013 expiration of the last deal, but ensuring that the 2014 season is without an officials impasse is ultimately the biggest thing.
