IL's Top 2014 Impact Freshmen
Patience is necessary for freshman. The game is significantly different at the college level than it is at the high school level: The game is faster, strategies are more complex, talent is concentrated, and balancing academic responsibilities is heightened. It takes freshman time to find their purpose, and only a select few annihilate Division I lacrosse right out of the gate.
Some freshman this season, though, are uniquely positioned to contribute immediately and carry a heavy load. Maryland's Matt Rambo and Villanova's Devin McNamara are two of those cats:
Matt Rambo, A, Maryland
Power 100 Rank: 2
IL's No. 2 recruit heading into the 2014 season, Rambo kicked of his college career with a bang, posting four goals and two assists against Mount St. Mary's last Saturday. His unique physicality (he plays like a small John Grant Jr.) and ability to score in tight spaces should have him on the field early. The La Salle (Pa.) recruit heralds a tremendous frosh class (see Power 100) that will be pushed to contribute immediately.Devin McNamara, A, Villanova
Power 100 Rank: 52
After an impressive senior high school season with Loyola Blakefield (Md.), which included winning the MIAA conference championship, McNamara continued to play well during fallball. According to IL's preseason preview, he will earn a starting spot in the 2014 season. The Wildcats open up against Lehigh on Feb. 15.
