Lacrosse the Internet: January 17, 2013

Princeton counts down their all-time best in the last 25 years, Ohio State is excited about 2014, and more.

This is obviously your favorite site, but other people actually write important stuff sometimes. Now is that sometimes.

A Full Pint

Ohio State men's lacrosse 'excited' for 2014 season
Here is Ohio State's distinguished lacrosse history:

  • NCAA Tournament Appearances: four (2003, 2004, 2008, 2013)
  • NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals: two (2008, 2013)
  • Conference Tournament Champions: seven (GWLL -- 1986, 1988, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2008; ECAC -- 2013)

"Excited" isn't the word I'd use here. "Terrified-beyond-belief-due-to-crushing-pressure-to-finally-turn-the-corner" would be the word I'd use here. In the best position the program has ever been in, the Buckeyes are facing a reality where making a trip to the NCAA Tournament -- which would be only the second time in the program's history that Ohio State has made consecutive trips to The Big Barbecue -- is an absolute must given the talent on the team's roster and the relative weakness of the ECAC in 2014. Ohio State has the potential to do some really special things this coming spring, but the program still needs to kick some of its history to the curb before the rosiness of life emerges.

The Top 25 Princeton Men's Lacrosse Players Of The Last 25 Years: 21-25
25 years from now people may not consider Mike MacDonald -- a junior on this season's Princeton roster -- one of Princeton's best 25 players of the last 50 years, but this list does recognize the fact that MacDonald -- a finishing-oriented attack from Ontario -- is one of the game's better closers around the net. His ability to abuse opposing keepers and to work within a system that requires him to play off of other offensive weapons is sublime. He doesn't draw the attention that other crease-focused attackman do, but he is every bit as good as finding twine.

Also -- Matt Streibel wasn't good enough to finish in the top 25?! Yeesh. I don't want my yearly work evaluation to go by Princeton's lacrosse standards.

Flights

#LMRanks: No. 19 St. John's Red Storm (MD1)
It's hard to envision a scenario where the Johnnies fall flat on their face despite having a monster attack -- Kieran McArdle, Colin Keegan, and Kevin Cernuto -- slinging the bean.

Alphabetical 2014 NCAA D1 Preview: Delaware
I wouldn't call 2013 a disaster for the Blue Hens, but 2014 needs some better moments from Delaware.

Jamesville-DeWitt (NY) 2016 attackman Burns will continue his family's D-I lacrosse tradition
Where will that tradition continue? IN THE THEATER OF YOUR MIND!

Holy Cross' captains should have to wear robes and that funny papal hat.

Focus one: Win face-offs. Focus two: ??? Focus three: Profit.

NCAA Preview: UMBC
Here's UMBC reality: They're not Albany, which is going to make things difficult in the America East.

Matt Kerwick is back to having the big whistle.

Yale 'X-Factor' Dempster Will Not Rejoin Team
Losing Dempster is a huge loss for the Bulldogs. That puts even more pressure on Brandon Mangan to make things happen.
