Lacrosse the Internet: April 24, 2013

Hot cha cha!

This is obviously your favorite site, but other people actually write important stuff sometimes. Now is that sometimes.

'Hoos Head to ACC Tournament on High Note
The UVa men's lacrosse team remains a long shot to earn a ninth straight invitation to the NCAA tournament. To even be eligible for a bid, the Cavaliers must win the ACC tournament next weekend in Chapel Hill, N.C., and they have yet to defeat a conference foe this season.

Lacrosse Recap: Virginia Beats Bellarmine, 12-7
The unseasonably cool breezes that swept through central Virginia on Saturday night were not derecho, nor El Niño, nor some low-lying jet stream phenomenon. They were instead the simultaneous exhale of relief from Virginia lacrosse fans, who had seen their Cavaliers stave off elimination from postseason play with a 12-7 win over Bellarmine.

Q&A with ESPN's Paul Carcaterra
ESPN analyst Paul Carcaterra provided color commentary for No. 4 Notre Dame’s 13-9 victory over Villanova last Saturday, an outcome that lifted Fighting Irish into a three-way tie for first place in the Big East. The former Syracuse All-American midfielder, who can be followed on Twitter via @paulcarcaterra, will be part of the crew covering Saturday’s Konica Minolta Big City Classic pitting No. 7 Cornell against No. 12 Princeton and No. 4 Notre Dame against No. 5 Syracuse. Carcaterra discussed which team would get his vote for the No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, which upset shocked him the most, and which game this weekend intrigues him.

Hobart, Fairfield Upsets, Hopkins' Win and 'Separation Saturday'
The season just keeps getter better as the weeks roll on. Upsets and rebounds from upsets have defined a campaign in which the top teams in the nation have at least two losses.

Greyhounds Laugh Last in Face of ECAC Politics
Charley Toomey, the head coach of the defending national champion Loyola Greyhounds, would never say it publicly. Toomey has too much class for that. But don't think for a second that Toomey and his seventh-ranked team didn't feel extra good about Loyola's 19-11 rout at Hobart on Saturday.

Hopkins Win Signaled Magical Run for Albany
If 10th-ranked Albany breaks through in the postseason and makes its first-ever trip to the NCAA tournament final four, the Great Danes probably will look back on a memorable road trip to Baltimore in early April as the defining moment of a wild spring.

Washburn: Bucknell a Team Comfortable in its Skin
A successful team and program must have an identity. When you hit the field as a player it gives you a comfort that allows you to play free. You know your role and your place within the team.

Projecting the NCAA Tournament Bracket
The one thing that really stuck out when we did bracket projections for this year’s NCAA tournament is just how much is unsettled. Any number of teams could play their way in or out of this year’s tournament and final week games and conference tournaments mean more than ever this year.
