From the Associated Press:
BREAKING: Defense Department: All sports at service academies temporarily suspended
— The Associated Press (@AP) October 1, 2013
Way to go, idiots. Here's the lacrosse impact:
According to a source with Navy athletic knowledge, some coaches (not main sports) could be furloughed during shutdown.

B/c of gov't shutdown, Department of Defense says it has "suspended all intercollegiate athletic competitions at the Service Academies."

Navy men were scheduled to scrimmage UMBC on Saturday and Air Force was supposed to play at Play for Parkinson's, also Saturday.

Government shutdown. #aflax will not participate in event this weekend in Virginia. Will stay home and train. #flexibilityiskey #resilience

Sure, it's just sports and in the big picture it means very little, but (1) Play for Parkinson's is without an important name, potentially eroding the benefit the ProjectSpark Foundation -- a cause dedicated to fighting Parkinson's Disease -- needs in order to survive and meet its mission; and (2) Navy needs all the practice and competition that it can get given the Midshipmen's effort in 2013. Freaking dolts.
