Seven Stories and One Set of Beats: January 25, 2013

It's more than seven today. In fact, I'm unloading most of the queue. Wave goodbye to a productive Friday.

This is obviously your favorite site, but other people actually write important stuff sometimes. Now is that sometimes.

Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Preview: Mercer
2012 was Mercer’s second as a varsity team, and they went 1-13, after going 1-12 in 2011. In 2011, their sole win was over Carthage, an NCAA D3 team, but in 2012, the program got their first NCAA D1 win in school history, 14-11, over Wagner at home. Jason Childs was the program’s coach for the first two years, and in 2013, Kyle Hannan takes over the reins.

Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Preview: Massachusetts
2012 saw UMass go 15-1, win all their regular season games, and enter the tournament as the #1 seed. After beating four top 20 teams in the regular season, UMass lost to Colgate 13-11, and their potential season of ’72 Dolphins glory went down the drain.

Boys' recruit: Webster Schroeder (NY) sophomore goalie Klan commits to Ohio State

Delbarton junior attackman Marone decides on Delaware lacrosse
When I visited the Delaware campus my sophomore year, all the coaches made me feel very comfortable and right at home. I knew soon after this, I would most likely end up there.

Garden City (NY) sophomore Borges opts for Ohio State lacrosse
Borges, who verbally committed to Ohio State, is the Trojans’ second sophomore commit, joining Penn State-bound Tom Wright, also a defender/LSM.

Former Warrior-turned-Wildcat Francia transfers to become a Wolverine
Mike Francia knew what he wanted, recognized what he didn't want and decided to take a leap of faith.

LAX midfielder drafted by MLL Denver Outlaws
Drexel senior Aaron Prosser was selected with the 36th overall pick in last weekend’s Major League Lacrosse player entry draft. Prosser, a midfielder, was selected in the fifth round by the Denver Outlaws.

Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Preview: Michigan
Michigan entered the D1 ranks last year with a lot of fanfare, as they were an MCLA juggernaut, and a new program at a big time sports school. They ended their inaugural campaign with a 1-13 record, but for a brand new D1 program, they were competitive in most of their games. A big win over Mercer was the first D1 victory in program history, and in 2013 Michigan will look to add on to that total.

Men's Lacrosse Wraps Up First Week of Preseason
It's still winter in Wisconsin, but the spring sports at Marquette University are well underway as teams like the Golden Eagles men's lacrosse program -- which will play its first season in 2013, starting in late February -- began preseason training earlier this week.

NCAA Preview 2013: Stony Brook
Stony Brook’s 2012 season could be summed up by inconsistency. They struggled out of conference before going 4-1 in conference play. After claiming the America East title and subsequent entry to the NCAA Tournament, most would say Jim Nagle’s first year as head coach seemed to have gone well. But if you talk to him and his players, they’ll tell you otherwise.

Marist Added to Men's Lacrosse Schedule
Duke University men's lacrosse head coach John Danowski recently announced the addition of Marist to the 2013 schedule. The Blue Devils will host the Red Foxes March 18 at 7 p.m.

Navy Announces 2013 Men's Lacrosse Broadcast Schedule
Five Navy men’s lacrosse games will be televised by CBS Sports Network or the ESPN network family this season with the possibility of two additional contests should the Mids qualify for the Patriot League Tournament in April.

Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Preview: Mount St. Mary's
In 2012, The Mount went 6-9, and finished 2-3 in NEC Conference play. The Mount opened their 2012 campaign strong by defeating Delaware 12-10. Mid-season conference loses to Bryant, Robert Morris and Quinnipiac stung, but the Mount would revenge their loss to Robert Morris in the NEC conference tourney. The Mount would eventually lose the NEC Championship to Bryant, 12-6.

First Look: Michigan and Detroit common opponents
This list is far more limited (two teams, plus head-to-head) than it was last year. I’ll take a look at all four teams in question in a pre-season look – and obviously go into much more detail on U-M and UDM in the run-up to the season.

Today's beats: It's a simple machine.
