Sunday Special!: January 20, 2013

It's Sunday, and that means two things: (1) Eating 30 wings with the excuse of "football"; and (2) Thinning out the lacrosse news queue.

This is obviously your favorite site, but other people actually write important stuff sometimes. Now is that sometimes.

Alphabetical 2013 NCAA D1 Preview: Loyola
2012 was a story book season for the Greyhounds. A preseason after thought, the Hounds quickly grabbed the attention of the media, their opponents, and the lacrosse world. Their 12-0 sprint out of the gates included wins over Duke, and each ECAC foe, including talented Ohio State and Denver teams. During this span, Loyola never surrendered double-digit goal totals and only Denver managed to put 9 on the board.

NCAA Preview 2013: Penn
The Quakers will be looking to rebound from a major disappointment in 2012, when they finished 3-10 overall and at the bottom of the Ivy League, tied with Dartmouth, each at 1-5.

Freshman midfielder Sammy Davis (Pittsfield, Mass.) is the first 2013 Penn State men's lacrosse member to step in front of the camera.

Class One Q&A: Chase Brown
In the 19th question-and-answer series for Class One, the first recruiting class of the U-M men's lacrosse team, Chase Brown, a longstick midfielder from the Severn School (Severna Park, Md.) is profiled. Brown was a three-year letterwinner and team captain in football, as well as lacrosse, playing for one of the top teams in the state of Maryland.

This is the fourth entry in a question and answer series with the first High Point University men's lacrosse team. Get to know the entire team as they prepare for the program opener against Delaware on Feb. 2 at Vert Stadium. Bucky Smith is a redshirt-junior from Great Falls, Va. who was chosen as one of the team captains for the season.

First college lacrosse scrimmages set for this weekend
Men’s and women’s college lacrosse teams from sea to shining sea have started official preseason practices.

Syracuse lacrosse team finalizes date to play Canisius on March 29 at Dome
Canisius has an official date with the Orange. The Golden Griffins will visit the Carrier Dome on March 29 at 7 p.m. to play Syracuse University. The Orange released its 2013 schedule last month but did not have a firm date with Canisius until last week when the school announced the game placement and time. This is the first regular-season game between the two schools. Syracuse defeated Canisius 20-3 in 2008 during the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Canisius has a few local players on its roster including Tim Edwards of Jamesville-DeWitt, Rich Stapleton of Rome Free Academy and Mike Vavonese of Christian Brothers Academy. The Golden Griffins were MAAC Champions last season. They earned the league's automatic spot in the NCAA Tournament and were beaten 17-5 in the first round by eventual national champion Loyola.
