Today's beats: Dave Brubeck died yesterday, the pioneer of California cool jazz and an innovator with few peers. I can't even put into words the influence that his quartet had on me; I instinctively hear his restrained right hand on a solo and Paul Desmond's light style that gave him that distinctive sound on the saxophone. A sad day for jazz fans everywhere.
