College Crosse News

Ryan & I broke down the biggest games this weekend in our Crossecast Week 5 Preview.

It’s like a throwback edition of College Crossecast as it’s just Ryan and Safe and it just so happens to be Cuse-Hopkins week! We get you set for that, the top 5 battle in Charlotte between Cornell and Penn State, a glut of great games in Philadelphia with the Philly 4 weekend, and a rivalry showdown between Denver and Notre Dame.

Need another Pat Spencer playing basketball story? I got you, fam: Why Pat Spencer, one of the best lacrosse players in the country, chose to play basketball at Northwestern.

Two summers ago, Pat Spencer slipped into a gym in Baltimore, seeking a good run of pickup basketball. In his first game, he raced downcourt and dunked. “We’re like, ‘Who is this dude?’” said Kurk Lee, the athletic director at the Under Armour House in Baltimore and a former NBA player. “Everyone in the gym fell in love with him.”

From The Diamondback: From scout team to starter, Maryland lacrosse’s Logan McNaney has rapidly ascended in net.

Logan McNaney had likely hoped for an uneventful start to his college career — his Maryland men’s lacrosse teammates recycling possession up the field and scoring goals early and often against Notre Dame as he watched on from his net.

This has to be a great stress reliever.

From US Lacrosse: The Connor Fields Conundrum.

Connor Fields follows only one person in lacrosse on social media: Connor Fields. “The only real connection I have to lacrosse is him,” Connor Fields said. Confused? Syracuse.com with a great Q&A with ‘Cuse’s Tucker Dordevic.

Syracuse lacrosse midfielder Tucker Dordevic missed a full season after breaking a bone in his foot twice. The surgeries, separated by about six months, sidelined the Portland, Ore., native after a breakout freshman season. In 2018, Dordevic started all 15 games — the most by a first-year offensive player at SU in over a decade — and scored 15 goals.

From the Yale Daily News: Bulldogs set to clash with Wolverines.

The No. 5 Bulldogs (2–1, 0–0 Ivy) kick off spring break under the lights in Southern California against the Wolverines (3–2, 0–0 Big Ten) as part of the Pacific Coast Shootout. According to the event’s website, the Shootout attempts to lure two top ranked teams each year to the West Coast for a regular season game.

From Pressbox: Loyola men’s lacrosse has grown since season-opening loss.

The Loyola men’s lacrosse team is beginning to find its way, earning four consecutive wins after a loss at Virginia to start the season. Senior long-stick midfielder and co-captain Ryan McNulty thinks the No. 11 Greyhounds are ready for a strong season after last year’s NCAA Tournament quarterfinal exit, when they lost, 21-14, to top-seeded Penn State.

News 10 ABC did a segment on this weekend’s Albany vs. Maryland game.

UAlbany men’s lacrosse head coach Scott Marr said he woke up angry and disappointed Wednesday morning, following a game at #15 UMass that he felt the Great Danes should have won. He said his team shot itself in the foot, pointing to a number of areas they need to clean up ahead of their matchup with #7 Maryland this weekend.
