From the Times Union: UAlbany men’s lacrosse holding itself accountable.

The University at Albany men’s lacrosse team became known as a loose, freewheeling group during its dominant run in the America East Conference. Everything from the team’s fast-paced offense to the player headshots with wild haircuts on their Web site that became an annual fixture on Barstool Sports set them apart from many other Division I programs.

Hofstra took it to Wagner yesterday 21-11.

The Hofstra men’s lacrosse team made a statement in their season opening 21-11 win against the Wagner College Seahawks at James M. Shuart Stadium Saturday, Feb. 8.

Freshman Justin Sykes could not have asked for a better start to his Hofstra career netting four goals in the game. He also received help from numerous teammates such as junior Dylan Mcintosh and senior Ryan Tierney who each had a hat trick in the game.

Joey Epstein’s absence was obvious on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Homewood Field. The sophomore sensation was hoping to make his debut in what could be a breakout season, but a lower-body injury suffered in the preseason kept him out.

Calls for helmet mandate in women’s lacrosse continue to grow.

As those who play the sport like to say, Lacrosse is the fastest game on two feet. It’s also among the fastest-growing sports in the country. But the game’s rapid growth also coincides with a deeper understanding of concussions and traumatic brain injuries, and like most sports, the lacrosse community is grappling with how to keep players safe.
