For the third consecutive game, No. 4 Maryland men’s lacrosse entered the fourth quarter trailing. With a two goal lead going into the final quarter, Villanova notched three unanswered goals in the first seven minutes of the fourth to extend its lead.
And now let’s hear from the victors: Villanova defeats #4 Maryland, ending losing streak.
The Wildcats took on their third straight top-five ranked team, Maryland, at home on Tuesday night. After going 0-2 during their games against No. 1 Penn State and No. 3 Yale, the ‘Cats were able to pull out a 13-12 win. New Anish Shroff post from US Lacrosse Magazine: Detours lead to better destinations.
A failed baseball player. A high school football coach at heart. A college soccer coach. That unlikely cocktail gave us the most successful coach in the history of Division I men’s lacrosse. Bill Tierney looked to lacrosse after baseball didn’t work out at Cortland State. His ultimate dream was to coach high school football on Long Island.
Honestly, I expect better chirps from Terps fans.

The athletics department’s “We Are Stags Initiative” is heavily based on Jesuit values. Do you believe that these values are employable on the lacrosse field?
We’ve involved the cultural commitments into our culture as a program, in terms of competing, caring, leading and growing. We touch on those all the time, and the other piece along with that is the selflessness piece which goes along with the Jesuit value of Men for Others.
