2019 Men’s College Lacrosse Year In Review: #13 Syracuse Orange.

Season Summary - Syracuse has been known to be one of the greatest lacrosse programs in the history of college lacrosse. But they haven’t been able to reach Championship Weekend since they last did it in 2013. As always, there’s a hope that the team can do that each year.

2019 did not start out as expected. Hosting Colgate in the season-opener, the Raiders took the lead early in the game. The Orange trimmed the deficit to a single goal multiple times but saw Colgate respond and end any change in momentum, leading to a surprising upset. After days of overreactions, Syracuse responded with a strong 13-5 win over Albany. Bradley Voigt scored a career-high six goals in the game. The Orange then responded by holding off Army West Point by a couple of goals.

The Premier Lacrosse League has visited only major markets so far in an inaugural season that co-founder Paul Rabil said has surpassed his expectations. But the tour-based professional league will wrap up its regular season by coming to the University at Albany’s Casey Stadium this Saturday and Sunday.

Brett Ritchie had superstar potential. Growing up in Orangeville, Ontario, the newest Bruins forward was drawing the attention of professional scouts. In one of the best programs for his sport in the country, there were plenty of other future elite players competing alongside him. Then, he chose hockey instead. “There is no doubt in my mind he would be one of the top end players in the National Lacrosse League if he chose to continue to play,” said former lacrosse teammate Jeremy Noble, now a professional player himself.

Here’s a nice post on former Towson star, Brendan Sunday: From uncertainty about lacrosse to starring professionally among stars.

Don Connolly knew it right away. He envisioned the young man becoming a standout, perhaps even on the national level, and going on to excel athletically in college — perhaps even beyond. “The talent and size and the well-rounded skill set,” Connolly gushed. “It was all there. I was excited.” Brendan Sunday remembers that day, as an eighth-grader, his youth lacrosse team visiting Yorktown for a showcase tournament.

I am sure it’ll be fine: A Yellowstone supervolcano eruption could “lead to human extinction.”

The eruption of a “supervolcano” underneath Yellowstone National Park would be like nothing humanity has ever seen, according to an op-ed from The New York Times. There are 20 supervolcanoes on Earth that represent that greatest natural threat to human life, writes journalist and “End Times” author Bryan Walsh.
