While the head coaching carousel is slowing down, the assistant coaching carousel continues to spin.
Multiple sources tell College Crosse new Stony Brook Seawolves head coach Anthony Gilardi will hire Sacred Heart Pioneers assistant Mike Chanenchuk and Hofstra Pride assistant J.P. Brazel.
The former Princeton and Maryland All-American has spent the past two seasons coaching Max Tuttle and Joe Saggese in the NEC and led the Pioneers to the 10th best scoring offense at 13.93 goals per game. Stony Brook’s offense was 55th at 10.13 goals per game.
Brazel spent the past eight seasons at his alma mater, all eight years as a goaltending coach and recruiting coordinator and the last seven guiding the team’s offense. He’s also made stops at Delaware, Sacred Heart, Manhattan, and Nassau Community College. A former goalie, Brazel has coached defense while at Sacred Heart and at Nassau.
Multiple sources also tell College Crosse new Harvard Crimson head coach Gerry Byrne intends to hire Notre Dame Fighting Irish assistant coach Neil Hutchinson and Washington & Lee assistant coach Will Corrigan as his assistants. Hutchinson spent last season with the Fighting Irish as an assistant coach after spending two seasons with UMBC. He was also a volunteer assistant at Towson.
Corrigan, the son of current Notre Dame head coach Kevin Corrigan, has spent the last three seasons with the Generals. He also played for the Irish from 2012 until 2015.
Elsewhere, Inside Lacrosse’s Matt Kinnear reported Notre Dame will hire former Navy associate head coach Ryan Wellner and Navy will hire former Denver assistant Jon Orsen to their respective staffs. Orsen worked under current Midshipmen head coach Joe Amplo at Marquette. Amplo has also reportedly brought in Ohio State assistant Brad Ross, according to Ty Xanders of Inside Lacrosse.
