The field is set for the 2019 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse tournament! Penn State, as expected, is the No. 1 overall seed. They’ll face the winner of the play-in game as the Nittany Lions look for their first ever program NCAA tournament win. Here are the top-eight seeds that will host a first round game either Saturday, May 11 or Sunday, May 12.
No. 1 Penn State (Big Ten)
No. 2 Duke (ACC)
No. 3 Virginia (ACC)
No. 4 Penn (Ivy)
No. 5 Yale (Ivy)
No. 6 Towson (CAA)
No. 7 Notre Dame (ACC)
No. 8 Loyola (Patriot)
Four ACC teams made the tournament, with Syracuse being the lone team not hosting in the first round (going to Loyola instead). Maryland snuck in despite closing the season with two straight losses to Johns Hopkins, and the Terps are playing close to home at Towson.
Action kicks off Wednesday with the play-in game between UMBC and Marist.
Cornell just missed the cut, and High Point’s losses to Jacksonville and St. John’s outweighed its wins over Duke and Virginia as the Panthers didn’t earn an at-large bid. The bubble shrank with bid-stealers like Army winning an automatic qualifier and Johns Hopkins making a strong push to the Big Ten title game.
