College Crosse Week 2 Picks: February Non-con Rivalry Weekend

We’re back with picks for one of the most stacked weekends of the year.

Folks.

FOLKS.

This weekend’s slate of D1 mens’ lacrosse games is quietly one of the best of the year. Most associate the biggest rivalries in the sport with late April, but you can also count on mid-February for an absolutely stellar slate of out-of-conference matchups.

The highlight of the weekend is probably Denver vs. Duke, as the Blue Devils try to shake off the rust from their shocking loss to High Point and grab a signature win from Bill Tierney’s Pios. Duke won this matchup last year, but Denver had won the previous four.

And there’s a lot more where that came from. The Loyola Greyhounds make the five-minute drive down Charles Street to Homewood Field to faceoff with the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays for a heated Baltimore rivalry. The Jays are looking to rebound in a big way in their home opener after last week’s beatdown at Towson. Loyola won this one at Ridley last year, but the last time it was at Homewood, Joel Tinney did this.

Rounding out our slate this week is Albany vs. Syracuse, Army vs. Rutgers, Robert Morris vs. Georgetown, and Lehigh vs. Virginia.

Last week’s results:

  1. Me (4-1)
  2. Jake (3-2)
  3. Safe (3-2)
  4. Ryan (2-3)
  5. Chris (2-3)

All aboard the struggle bus for Ryan and Chris. Credit to Safe for being the only one to pick Army over UMass. I was the only one to pick Towson over Hopkins, but as I said last week, that was more of an attempt at a reverse jinx than anything else. It didn’t work.

Current season standings:

  1. Me (9-1)
  2. Jake (7-3)
  3. Safe (7-3)
  4. Ryan (5-5)
  5. Chris (5-5)

And here are this week’s picks:

College Crosse Week 2 Picks

WEEK 2 (Feb 15. - Feb. 16) Adam Jake Ryan Chris Safe
WEEK 2 (Feb 15. - Feb. 16) Adam Jake Ryan Chris Safe
Denver vs. Duke Duke Denver Denver Denver Denver
Robert Morris vs. Georgetown Georgetown Georgetown Georgetown Georgetown Georgetown
Army vs. Rutgers Rutgers Rutgers Army Rutgers Rutgers
Loyola vs. Johns Hopkins Johns Hopkins Loyola Loyola Loyola Johns Hopkins
Albany vs. Syracuse Syracuse Syracuse Albany Albany Albany

Two of our five games this week are split evenly (or as evenly as you can split five people, which is 3-2 or 2-3). Our two Hopkins guys are going with the Jays to rebound at Homewood against their local rival. Jake and I went with Cuse while the others picked Albany.

Meanwhile, Ryan was the only one to go with Army over Rutgers, while I was the only one to pick Duke over Denver. I like Danowski and Co.’s chances of beating Denver on a cross-country road-trip. The Pios also might be missing attackman Austin French again. We all went with GTown to take care of Robert Morris after the RoMo was run over by the Penn State Express last weekend.
