The Cleveland State Vikings are the 22nd team in our 2020 men’s college lacrosse schedule preview series and the second independent team. Cleveland State finished 8-7 overall in 2019, their third varsity season. The Vikings recorded notable wins over Canisius, Marquette, and Utah last year.
NJIT also released their 2020 schedule yesterday.
NJIT Men’s Lacrosse head coach Travis Johnson has announced the Highlanders’ 2020 schedule, which will be the program’s first as a member of the Northeast Conference.
The Highlanders will play a 14-game schedule, with its games evenly split between home, road, non-conference, and NEC contests - seven of each.
”A lot of excitement is associated with this schedule release. To have an asterisk indicate a conference opponent on the schedule means so much for our program and student-athletes. The opportunity to build conference rivalries, compete for conference playoff spots, compete for conference championships and compete for NCAA playoff bids makes this an exciting time. We are grateful to be associated with a conference like the NEC with such strong teams and playing elite out of conference opponents to ready us for our first conference season,” head coach Travis Johnson said upon the release of the schedule.
From Bloomberg’s Scott Soshnick: The NLL is going to Las Vegas for a game.
Indoor lacrosse is headed to Las Vegas -- for one game, anyway. The National Lacrosse League will stage a game in Las Vegas, marking the first time in its history the indoor league will play in the gambling and entertainment mecca.
The Harvard Crimson with a nice profile on new men’s lacrosse coach Gerry Bryne.
After 16 seasons as an assistant coach for one of the nation’s most consistently competitive Division I men’s lacrosse programs, Gerry Byrne had no shortage of offers once he started fielding calls about head coaching positions. When push came to shove, though, Byrne wasn’t lured away from his assistant coaching job at the University of Notre Dame by one of the already-established D-I powerhouses that he entertained offers from.

Oh no: Lacrosse player needs emergency surgery after being struck with a ball and not wearing a cup.
The 17-year-old returned to the pitch to finish the game despite “significant pain.” At home that evening the pain in his genitals got worse and he went to hospital. Doctors did scans and found both his testicles were “fractured.” They operated to repair the outer layers of the organs inside the scrotum.

What’s Up, New PhilaJersey?
Blessed: “Mountain of food” decorates N.J. State House for Diwali celebration.
Committee Room 6 at the New Jersey State House took on a decidedly different feel Thursday from the usual serious, sometimes stodgy tenor of legislative hearings. Over the course of two hours early Thursday morning, volunteers from BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Robbinsville, transformed the room and set up a traditional “Annakut,” known as “mountain of food,”as part of a Diwali celebration.
