Rest in peace: “Death of South Surrey lacrosse president ‘a massive loss for our community.’”

Members of the Semiahmoo Peninsula sports community are mourning the sudden loss of Randy Ellis, who died Saturday while competing in a Tough Mudder race in Las Vegas. He was 61 years old. Ellis was a longtime coach, and was the president of Semiahmoo Rock lacrosse association.

Stand up, Long Island: “‘It’s about relationships’ at lacrosse clinic for kids with special needs.”

From the parking lot of the Staff Sergeant James D. McNaughton Memorial Park in Centereach, Tuesday evening looked rather ordinary, just a group of kids playing lacrosse. It’s a rather common occurrence on Long Island. But inside those fences, the action meant so much more. Inclusive Lacrosse, a program for special needs children and young adults of any age, held its third clinic.

The NY Post with an article about Thomas O’Connell, former Maryland lacrosse player, making it onto St. John’s basketball team as a graduate student walk-on.

Thomas O’Connell played at the highest level of lacrosse in college and now he’s giving high-major basketball a shot. After exhausting his lacrosse eligibility at Maryland, the Long Island native is turning to his first love — basketball — at St. John’s as a graduate student walk-on after impressing the coaching staff in a tryout.

Philly may be a plastic bag-free city soon.

It may soon cost you for a plastic bag in Philadelphia as the city is looking to become one of many big cities to crack down on plastic bag usage. Councilmember Mark Squilla introduced a bill on Tuesday that would ban all single-use plastic bags in the city.
