Conference Tournament Championship Big Board For May 6, 2018

Time Away Home Conference Tournament Stream Live Stats
Time Away Home Conference Tournament Stream Live Stats
Noon Cornell Yale Ivy League Championship ESPNU Columbia
Noon Boston University Duke ACC Network Extra Duke

As much as I’d love to see BU and Duke play, this game won’t really matter at all, unless Duke loses. I don’t think they do. We’ll move on.

Things aren’t that simple in the Ivy League. I’ll be helped out by LaxPrediction.com’s predictions machine. Also for the sake of this exercise, we have Duke beating BU. Sorry Marisa, but I hope you understand this.

Currently, Cornell has an RPI of 14 and SOS of 24.

Cornell Wins

In with the automatic qualifier. Their RPI boosts from 14 all the way to nine, along with an SOS of 13.

Who would be out? With Georgetown winning the Big East, I have the Hoyas replacing Rutgers, if we look at yesterday’s now obsolete Bracketology post. Cornell would replace Bucknell with their AQ. But don’t assume Villanova is safe from this either.

Let’s take a look at their numbers after this result:

  • Bucknell: RPI #16, SOS #31
  • Rutgers: RPI #15, SOS #12
  • Villanova: RPI #13, SOS #22

These are only two metrics that the selection committee would use. Maybe Rutgers would still be in if Cornell wins. There’s still hope.

Cornell Loses

The RPI would stay at 14, but the SOS shoots up to 13 as well. They would be in a battle with Bucknell, Rutgers, and Villanova for the final two at-larges.

Their numbers after this possible result:

  • Bucknell: RPI #16, SOS #30
  • Rutgers: RPI #15, SOS #12
  • Villanova: RPI #11, SOS #21

Nothing groundbreaking except for Villanova creeping up close to the top 10 in the RPI. In this result, Nova should get in.

It would still be a three-team race between Bucknell, Cornell, and Rutgers. It’s not shown here, but keep in mind that the Bison have wins over Yale and Loyola, two RPI top 10 teams. Maybe the Big Red sneak past Rutgers and for a third straight year, the Scarlet Knights just fall short.

I wish there was a place where we could discuss everything before the Selection Show at 9 PM. Discussing the bubble, reacting to the bracket, maybe some interviews. Hmmm....

8 PM, our Facebook page. Like us there. Last year was fun. This year we hope is better.

I’ll have my final Bracketology once the Ivy League Championship is done as well. And as an aid, here’s all the teams that have some sort of shot to get into the NCAA Tournament:

Why go anywhere else tonight?

Song of the Day

We won’t do the regular Prospectus end notes because you all probably came for the Selection Sunday words.

It’ll be a long day. And just like the late Tom Petty, the waiting is the hardest part.

This song is gonna be on repeat from 2 PM until 9.

Games start at noon! I’ll see you out there. And make sure you follow us on social media!
