Previewing Monmouth’s 2018 Schedule

Is a MAAC repeat on the horizon for the Hawks?

Monmouth Athletics

The Monmouth Hawks are the 43rd team in our 2018 schedule preview series and the second team from the MAAC. The Hawks won their first ever MAAC championship in their fourth year as a program before falling to Bryant in the NCAA Play-In game.

Here’s the entire 2018 schedule:

Monmouth adds Princeton for the first time in their short history, but loses Villanova and VMI on the schedule.

Let’s check out some notable games on this schedule:

Best Nonconference Game: @ Hofstra

One of Monmouth’s close games last year, the Hawks just lost by two. They’ll be back in Hempstead this year against a team that’s projected to be weaker than they were a year ago, similar to Monmouth itself.

Best Conference Game: vs. Marist

There’s a good chance we see these two teams play each other again in the MAAC Championship. Marist sustains less losses than Monmouth does, and they’ve been more consistent in recent years than the Hawks.

Under The Radar Game: vs. Delaware

The Blue Hens got out with an 11-10 win in overtime last year, when Delaware was pretty good during nonconference play. Charlie Kitchen, Andrew Romagnoli, and Joe Eisele spearhead a young attack unit that produced a ton of points last year as a unit.

Possible Upset: @ Princeton

Princeton is Monmouth’s season opener. In last year’s season opener, the Hawks upset Villanova on the road. Will we see something similar with another team with high expectations in Princeton? How will the new look defense be against Michael Sowers?
