Hobart Releases 2018 Schedule

The Hobart Statesmen are the second Division I team to unveil their 2018 schedule. The Upstate New York squad is eager to return to the NCAA Tournament after losing to Bryant in the NEC championship game last year in Geneva.

The Statesmen have scrimmages against Michigan, Towson, and Hofstra before their season opener. They also have a scrimmage listed against Marquette on February 3 at Hempstead, but the Golden Eagles are scrimmaging Johns Hopkins in Baltimore that day. The regular season begins with Penn State on February 10 for the second straight season. They’ll play in Happy Valley this year. Their “home” opener is the following week against Siena at the Pinnacle Athletic Complex in Victor. The Statesmen play there when the weather isn’t cooperating during the winter. Hobart ends the month in Ithaca against Cornell.

March begins with two home games in four days as Boswell Field. That can always change. Hobart hosts Binghamton March 3 and Colgate March 6, before traveling to Georgetown to take on the Hoyas four days later. NEC play opens up a week later on the road against Wagner. The Statesmen host St. Joe’s in a rematch of last year’s overtime victory on Hawk Hill on March 24, followed by a short trip to Buffalo to take on Canisius three days later.

April kicks off with their usual rivalry game with Syracuse in the Carrier Dome on the 3rd, followed by Robert Morris at home on April 7. The Statesmen then take on Mount St. Mary’s and Bryant in consecutive weeks, before ending the regular season at home against Sacred Heart on April 28.

Pretty much, the Statesmen face everyone they did in 2017, except a few teams near the latter end of the schedule are switched around. Even though Hobart loses Jeremy Hirsch to Princeton, Kyle Turri comes over from Binghamton to become the new defensive coordinator.
