It’s August, and while the rest of the lacrosse world enjoys some rest and relaxation during the quiet period, we here at College Crosse never stop from giving you, the People, quality content!
Today we have a great pod with special guest Jac Coyne. Jac is a graduate of Colby College in Maine and has an MA in Journalism from the University of Iowa. He was the Director of Athletic Communications at Bowdoin College, before moving onto Lacrosse Magazine where he was one of their best writers for over 12 years. In 2015 he became the Director of External Affairs for the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association, where he still works today. Jac’s long storied career as a lacrosse media member was recognized by the USILA when they honored him with the Doyle Smith media award during the IMCLA Convention in 2015.

We discussed a lot on our pod with Jac. We first got some insight into his background, how he got into lacrosse, and a little insight into the MCLA (3:40). We then discussed if he thinks other MCLA teams are going to make the jump to D1 and what the MCLA is doing to grow their league (16:10). We then talked about the early rivalry between Inside Lacrosse & Lacrosse Magazine, and then discussed the state of journalism in lacrosse today (24:30). We then had a great digression about Lacrosse Twitter and some of the new media outlets in lacrosse (35:15).
We then talked a little bit about Tufts lacrosse, coach Mike Daly, and whether Jac thought any other D III coaches could make a jump to D I (55:35). Next we discussed D II lacrosse (65:15) and what Jac would change if he were commissioner of college lacrosse (69:17). Jac then gave us his thoughts on the pro game and whether or not he thought lacrosse would be in the 2028 Olympics in LA (89:30). We closed our conversation with NFL talk and how Jac watched his Pats win Super Bowl 51 (95:20).
