Dirk Facer of the Deseret News has a great article on the Utah Utes’ club sports programs, with a focus on men’s lacrosse.

The Utah men’s lacrosse team, though, is different than most. Holman noted that it's blessed to have a lot of support.

“I have an increased, tremendous admiration for the club world,” [Brian Holman] said. “From the lacrosse perspective I know it’s a huge help for our game. I didn’t realize what it provided for a lot of these kids.”

Volunteers are a huge part of the operation.

“If you’re just trying to run a club on your own there’s a lot of work,” Holman added. “I have so much admiration for those people. It’s beyond belief.”

The Onondaga Nation hosted the youth box lacrosse championships. Michael Greenlar of Syracuse.com has details.

Onondaga Nation lacrosse coach, Sonny Shenandoah, says youth lacrosse teaches young boys character development such as personal respect and honor, as well skills of the game. "You don't have to win to play a good game. It does matter how you play the game. They honor themselves, they honor the game."

He says, "A lot of people say it's a medicine game, but it isn't like a pill or a shot. It's is a spiritual medicine. Look around. We are happy, we're laughing, there is camaraderie. That is the medicine."

If you have a subscription to the Sports Business Journal, there’s a great article by Adam Stern about how some lacrosse franchises use their community to build a loyal fan base.
