GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING, College Crosse Nation!! Thanks for making us a part of your day! Here are your links for June 23, 2017.

What You Missed

As first reported by yours truly, the Michigan Wolverines hired Kevin Conry as their head coach.

We had St. Bonaventure Bonnies head coach Randy Mearns on a special College Crossecast! Yesterday was his first day on the new job!

Lacrosse The Nation

Speaking of Mearns, Matt Hamilton of US Lacrosse Magazine recently did an interview with him. A lot of what he asks you’ll hear in our podcast.

WHAT ARE THE FIRST STEPS TO BUILDING THIS NEW PROGRAM?

We can build a foundation and I’d like to say a new foundation. There’s probably 70, 80, 90, I think they call them the godfathers. Because back in the day St. Bonaventure did have men’s lacrosse. I played against them. I actually got smoked against them. From what I hear, they are super pumped because lacrosse is back at their institution. We can start to reconnect with them, that’s the first order of business.

The second is to hire an assistant coach full-time. The third thing is to get on the road recruiting and start to build this program. I couldn’t be more excited. In some sense, you go through it and you take a leap of faith at times, but sometimes change is good. I’m proud and honored and humbled to be this guy leading a whole new generation of St. Bonaventure lacrosse.

The UMass Minutemen have extended head coach Greg Cannella’s contract through the 2020 season. He enters his 24th season as head coach in 2018.

"Greg has created a winning culture at UMass and we are excited to support him as our head coach for the foreseeable future," [Ryan] Bamford said. "Under Greg's leadership, we are confident that with additional investments in our men's lacrosse program, we will realize regular conference championships and increased national visibility."

A 1988 UMass graduate, Cannella holds an all-time record of 194-137 (.586) with eight NCAA Tournament berths, eight New England Championships, three trips to the NCAA quarterfinals and one NCAA Championship Game appearance. His tenure at Massachusetts marks one of the longest active terms in NCAA Division I. He ranks second among active head coach coaches for tenure at one institution while Cannella is fifth in total years as a head coach among current Division I program leaders.

"I am thrilled to continue to serve as the head coach of the University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse team," Cannella said. "As my alma mater, and a program I have been a member of for nearly 30 years, I hope to continue to serve the student-athletes who give their all to this University for as long as I coach lacrosse. Thank you to Ryan Bamford, Darrice Griffin and to the UMass Laxbackers, our strong network of alumni, for continuing to support UMass men's lacrosse and our vision of what this program is all about."
