Last week we looked at some individual stat leaders. This week, we’re diving into all 71 D1 teams clearing and riding rates. The top-right quadrant features teams that are above average in both categories.
Some observations:
- 24 teams are in the top right quadrant: Air Force, Furman, Rutgers, Virginia, Quinnipiac, Army, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Loyola, Harvard, Fairfield, Providence, UMass, Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Maryland, Colgate, Hartford, Albany, Richmond, Duke, Villanova and Monmouth.
- Unsurprisingly, a few of the best clearing teams (Syracuse, Ohio State, Penn State, Harvard) have domes for those bad weather February games.
- Hopkins is clearing the ball as well as anyone. As I mentioned in the Monday blog, they recently turned to Brock Turnbaugh (a ball-stopping goalie) over Gerald Logan (a goalie who helps in the clearing game). It’ll be interesting to see if that keeps up.
