NJIT already clinched a spot in Reverse Survivor last week with not playing a game. But Siena and Jacksonville continued to lose.
But all three teams have opponents that could get them their first win of the regular season coming up this week. Let’s take a look at the schedule:
Reverse Survivor 2017 #6
Team | Record | Next Opponent | Date | Opponent After That | Date |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Team | Record | Next Opponent | Date | Opponent After That | Date |
Jacksonville | 0-9 | @ VMI | 4/8 | @ Mercer | 4/15 |
NJIT | 0-10 | vs. Monmouth | 4/8 | @ Lafayette | 4/11 |
Siena | 0-10 | vs. Manhattan | 4/8 | @ Canisius | 4/15 |
Team Outlooks
Jacksonville in my mind has the best chance to get their first win of the season on Saturday. Why? Well, they have VMI, and VMI ain’t that good. The Keydets are 2-7 with a one goal win over fellow Reverse Survivor NJIT and a 14-1 win over...Hampton...last weekend. The game is at VMI this weekend, but it’s probably the best chance to get a win for the Dolphins. If they lose this game, it’s highly likely they could end the season winless at 0-13.
NJIT didn’t play a game last week, so they should be healthy and well-rested. They play Monmouth on Saturday in what I think will be a loss. The Hawks are a possible NCAA Tournament team if they win the MAAC Tournament in May. But then, the Highlanders are at Lafayette on Tuesday. That could be a win for the Highlanders given how weird Tuesday games can be. If they don’t win that one, they have Hampton at Hampton next Saturday, and that should be enough to get them off the island.
Finally, we’ll finally see if Siena isn’t the worst team in the MAAC this weekend as they take on Manhattan in Loudonville. Their two wins are against Wagner and Hartford, both in multiple overtimes, but have lose their next six games. If the Saints defense can contain Parker Giarratana and even C.J. Scharf to an extent on offense, Siena should come out with a win. After the Jaspers comes Canisius in Buffalo next weekend. Siena also has Quinnipiac on April 21.
We have less than a month left in the regular season, and three teams still don’t have a win. Could all three wind up going winless in 2017?
*NOTE: First year program Cleveland State and Hampton aren't eligible for Reverse Survivor but IT DOESN’T MATTER ANYMORE! Both teams have recorded wins this year, even though they’re not against Division I teams.
