Game Recaps
Monmouth 9, Lafayette 8: This was the only game worth talking about, because it was the only real competitive one as well. Lafayette actually led this one at 6-5 midway through the third quarter, but four straight goals by the Hawks paved way for a 9-8 win, despite their final goal with 35 seconds left. Dan Bloodgood and Eamon Campbell each had two tallies for Monmouth, while Dylan Schulte and Griffin Figel each recorded a goal and an assist. Nick Hreshko made 14 saves in goal. The Leopards were spearheaded by Kevin Lewis and his hat-trick, along with one goal and one assist performances by Will McCarthy and Conor Walters, as well as a 13-for-20 face-off performance from John Becker. Goaltender Matthew Cortese made seven stops in this one. This is Monmouth’s fourth straight win, which sets a new program record.
Yale 23, St. John’s 7: The Bulldogs exploded for their highest goal total in 27 years over St. John’s. It was pretty much over after the first quarter when Yale led 8-1, but if you didn’t think that was the case, it was definitely over when the Elis led 14-1 at the half. Freshman Jackson Morrill had four goals, while Brendan Mackie, Jack Tigh, and freshman Matt Gaudet scored three goals, with Mackie also dishing out an assist. Ben Reeves is still a very good player, scoring twice and assisting on four other goals. Jason DeBenedictis had a hat-trick for the Red Storm.
Virginia 20, Cleveland State 7: This game was already going to be ugly even before the game was played and was ugly after the first quarter and first half. Virginia led 7-0 and 15-2 respectively, which was kind of expected, before they let off the gas pedal in the second half. Joe French had four goals and one assist, Michael Kraus and Milan Murray had hat-tricks, and Mike D’Amario recorded three goals and an assist, as he filled in for Zed Williams at attack due to Williams attending his father’s funeral. French also showed his support.
