Game Preview
It’s...SUNDAY NIGHT!
With a win today, Maryland will be the first Big Ten team to clinch a spot in the conference tournament at Ohio State. They’re coming to Piscataway on short rest after defeating Albany by one goal on Wednesday in New York. Prior to that, they defeated then-number one Penn State at home by four goals. Tim Rotanz and Matt Rambo each had three points in the Albany game, with Rotanz recording a hat-trick and Rambo putting up two goals and one assist. The defense gave up eight points (three goals, five assists) to Connor Fields however, and Rutgers has a pretty good offense of their own, led by freshman Kieran Mullins, who has a team-high 32 goals and 46 points. He’s paired at attack with Jules Heningburg, who has a team-high 20 assists and is second on the team with 37 points.
The Scarlet Knights are in must-win territory at 1-1 in Big Ten play. A loss puts them at 1-2, with the other 1-2 team, Penn State, up next weekend in Happy Valley. Ohio State wraps up Big Ten play two weeks later. Not only that, but the Scarlet Knights are also looking for an at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament. Three straight losses could mean they get neither.
